Supergirl is here to save the world. But first, she needs a drink. The new Supergirl teaser starring House of the Dragon and Sirens alum Milly Alcock just dropped, and it presents a very different type of hero than Clark Kent from James Gunn’s 2025 Superman.
The teaser opens on Krypto the Superdog, who previously helped save the day with Superman (David Corenswet), breaking a glass bottle and peeing on a newspaper. That noise wakes up Supergirl, aka Kara Zor-El, who’s asleep in bed with sunglasses half on. She doesn’t appear to be in a rush to get up. Instead, she compliments Krypto for at least peeing mostly on the paper “this time.”
Kara appears to spend her nights getting drunk alone. In one moment from the trailer, with Krypto by her side, she makes a toast with a flaming shot glass, declaring that 23 will be the best year yet. “Let’s be honest babe, it’s not a very high bar to clear,” she says.
Kara’s nights of lonely debauchery seemingly come to an end when she meets Ruthye Marye Knoll, a young girl and warrior played by Eve Ridley, who needs Kara’s help. It isn’t long before Kara and Ruthye face off against some of the galaxy’s most dangerous foes, including Lobo, played by Jason Momoa.
Alcock first appeared as Kara at the end of Superman, when she came to pick up Krypto from Superman’s lair after partying through the galaxy. Kara and Superman may be cousins, but don’t expect the warm and fuzzy attitude that fans got from Corenswet’s hero. As Kara says in the trailer, “He sees the good in everyone. And I see the truth.”

James Gunn, who is also the cochairman and CEO of DC Studios, told Entertainment Weekly that Supergirl will go to “very dark places.”
“The whole point of the movie is Kara's upbringing is totally different than Clark's upbringing,” Gunn said. “He's very fortunate. He was an infant adopted by incredibly loving parents. She grew up and watched every single person around her that she loved die in a horrible way. She's bitter and she's jaded and she's messed up, and that's where we start with her.”
Supergirl flies into theaters on June 26, 2026.
